Development of a treatment for post-traumatic stress based on the reactivation of memory.

Development of a treatment for post-traumatic stress based on the reactivation of memory.

Post-traumatic stress is a disorder that can affect individuals who have had a traumatic experience. Memories of that experience become pathological and interfere with people’s lives causing problems related to depression and anxiety. We have known for a couple of decades that when a memory evokes, it can become sensitive to interference and decrease its strength or disappear. This phenomenon in which evoked memory becomes sensitive is called “reconsolidation”. This project is intended to develop a possible pharmacological treatment for post-traumatic stress based on blocking memory reconsolidation and to understand the brain bases of the effect of the drug.
